The Mr. Peanut Design Patent

This design patent protects the famous Mr. Peanuts, belonging to Planters. In 1916, the peanut company held a contest to determine the company logo. The beginnings of Mr. Peanut, created by 14 year-old schoolboy Antonio Gentile, won the contest and would later receive an added top hat, monacle, and cane to become the Mr. Peanut icon we all know and love today. Since his birth, Mr. Peanut has been in countless TV commercials, becoming a world-wide peanut celebrity. His image became so classic and popular that, in 2006, when Planters asked customers what to add to Mr. Peanut, the public voted for no change.
